Lovely as a Tree Dryer Sheet Technique

With Christmas still on my mind I decided to post another Christmas card.  This one I C.A.S.E.D from a relatively new friend of mine.  Though she lives about 1750 miles away we have been sharing alot via "Snail Mail".  Yes "Snail Mail"!  It has been so much fun receiving little surprises every now and then.  We e-mail when we can and share family stories and of course our craft shopping obsessions LOL.  Anyway she sent me the most beautiful card that she had done with a ladies group she is in and when my ladies saw it they HAD to make it.  Of course me being me I waited until the last minute to put together the kits and of course I could not find my rectangle dies anywhere so I had to substitute.  But it still turned out awesome.
I'm sure all of you are familiar with the dryer sheet technique.  Its been done numerous times on YouTube and with the  Lovely as a Tree stamp by Stampin Up.  But the way my friend brought everything together is a way I had not seen.  So here it is:

On all of different samples of this technique I had never seen it with color.  But she had added the hills and blue hues of the snow and sky and yellow of the moon or sun which ever you feel it is.  Ok mine was really yellow.  Grabbed the wrong shade and OOPS.  But I'll just pretend its a really sunny day!
Technically there are 4 layers to this card. 5 if you count the base.  Anyway you would stamp and shade your scene first. (layer 1) then spray adhesive a used dryer sheet and lay that on top of your stamped sheet (layer 2) Smooth it out and no it doesn't have to be wrinkle free it will still look great.  Trim excess dryer sheet even with card stock.   We then re-sprayed the top of the now dryer sheet covered image.  Sprinkle glitter over the top.  It does not matter which brand you use just be aware that if it is one that carries a pinkish hue to it your scene will look pinkish.  I used a paint brush to brush off excess glitter.  Really helps.  To assemble the card cut a piece of card stock and some foam sheet about 1/4" larger than your image sheet, then on right side place your die and cut.  Do each piece 1 at a time. (or it won't go through machine ask me how I know LOL)  Using a foam layer (layer 3) on top of the image layer gives you a real nice window effect.  Then place die cutted cardstock (layer 4) on top.  All of this then can be glued down to a card base which would be a 1/4" larger than your finished layers.
We were not very precise with our measurements because we all have envelope makers and decided we would just make special envelopes for this card but I'm sure you can do this same design with a standard 4.25 x 5.5 card.
We used Tim Holtz holiday sentiment dies for the left side of the card.  We were not sure if the original card was a stamped sentiment or a digi one but we did not have anything that fit so we used dies.

I'm sorry....I know this is long and probably confusing but if you have time to play I would give this a try.  Now That I figured it out it's a breeze.

Later.............................

Christmas Shutter Cards

Well I just surprised myself by noticing that I never updated my Friendship Shutter card seen here to include a larger version.  How crazy is that?  So seeing that I now made another Christmas one I thought I should get those posted.
These are just larger  than the friendship one.  The friendship one fits in a regular size envelope.  You know, the ones that you can buy in the office section of the dollar store. This larger size fits in the legal size envelopes.  So as far as envelopes go it's not going to cost you an arm and a leg for these special fold cards.

Inside on left and closed
on right.  Ribbon keeps card closed.

Then the other night I made this one.

Different papers, different look.  I am going to be making alot of these for sure.  It is a great card for using up scraps, which I always have a ton of.  Here are the measurements.

1 piece of cardstock 9 x 12
score on long side at 3, 6, and 9 turn and then score on short side at 3 and 6

With short side at top of trimmer line cardstock at the 3" mark and move cutter (without cutting) to the 1 1/2" mark cut from 1 1/2 to 10 1/2".  Slide cardstock to 6" and repeat the cut from 1 1/2" to 10 1/2"

You will need 2 pieces of same card stock 3 1/4" x 9 1/4"...1 for the front and back piece .

10 pieces DSP 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" or for smaller border 2 7/8" x 2 7/8"
4 pieces 1 3/8" x 2 3/4"

Front panel DSP 3x9 you do not need to decorate back side.

Embellies of your choice, ribbon of your choice.

Hope you enjoy making this card as I have.  So easy and goes together quickly.
I'm going to try my Graphic 45 papers next.

Til later...............................

The Die's Have It!

I decided to play with a new die set I ordered last week.  Is a Sue Wilson die set by Creative expressions.  Seen HERE.  I bought this because of a card I saw on Pinterest, which of course I wanted to mimic.  Here's the card I saw:
PartiCraft (Participate In Craft): Thank You
Although I wanted to C.A.S.E. this exactly as seen, I was also too lazy to go down to the craft room to get supplies.  So instead I decided to make due with what I had in the grandkids craft closet in their sleepover bedroom.  I had also decided not to re-look at the card.  Which I did not until I started writing this post.  My end result is quite similar, different colors, and I forgot there was grass on the card.  Oh well....the grass die was down stairs anyway....and as you recall I didn't want to go down there.   So here it is:
In hindsight, I should have used a darker color for the tree but this is what I had.  I also think my fence is a tad big.  Other than that it's not bad.  This is the first time I have made a card using only dies.  My fence was a different die set though I don't remember the name and the clouds were a really inexpensive buy from Amazon.  I think it was a set of 3 different sizes that was perfect for cards.  I believe June and I are going to use this card as an example for the Nursing home card craft next week.  We might have to omit the tiny tiny birds in the sky and maybe even the red bird.  They are a bit small for them to handle.

Well til next time...................................

Gel Pens Tulip Card

Today I want to share a magazine with you.  I had started buying this magazine when I was up at my summer home at a local book store.  They eventually stopped carrying it but by then I had a subscription.  The Magazine is from the UK.  Let me tell you they have the coolest card magazines.  To top it off each issue comes with free gifts.  Sometimes papers, sometimes stamps, sometimes dies and sometimes all three.  What could be better than that?  Oh I guess I should tell you the name of this fantastic magazine.............
Now this is not the only card magazine the UK has.  Another great one is Quick Cards and it too comes with free gifts.  If you want to check them out they are available from Barnes and Noble and sometimes Joanns.
This particular issue came with some 8x8 DSP, an acrylic stamp and an embossing folder with matching border folder.  Each gift set is highlighted inside the magazine with examples of how to use your gifts.

For today's card I decided to take my inspiration from the sample inside.

This card measures 6x6 and I used a doily die to add a doily to the front.  I had fussy cut around the tulip image which was colored with my sparkle gel pens.  Sometimes I just like the brightness and sparkle they give the images.  If you haven't tried it yet you should.  In fact if the space your coloring is a bit large like the tulip it's self you can just add color on the edges and add a bit of water to a brush and it spreads almost like watercolor.  Its really a cool technique.  Here's my card......................
The doily seemed appropriate since the paper has little doily's on it.
Pretty cool right?
Well I think I'll go find another card to make with my gifts.  Maybe this time use the embossing folders!

Til next time.........................

Heartfelt Woodsy Wonderland Card

Good Day!   Today I have a Heartfelt Creation card to share with you.  The inspiration was taken from this card seen HERE  Now although there are directions to follow, I had found that it was not for a standard size card.  So the dimensions I have are a bit different.  First I'd like to share the card so here it is........................
Now for those directions.  But first a funny story.  It took my friend and I nearly 3 hours to get it right.  Was it difficult?  No....should have been super easy!  But one sample after another turned out 1/8" off.  Is that a huge problem?  Only if your as anal as we are!!!  LOL  The whole 1/8" was due to operator error thinking that to score a 4 1/4 piece in half somehow equals a score line at 2 1/4"!  DUH????  Since when does 2 1/4 plus 2 1/4 equal 4 1/4?????   Yep ....took us 4 tries to realize it was suppose to be 2 1/8.  Sometimes I'm not sure where our brains go to.  LOL

So here's what you need

1  piece heavy cards stock for base cut at 5.5" x 8.5"

Heartfelt Creations Woodsy Wonderland papers of your choice
Heartfelt Creation matching stamps and dies

With 5.5 length at top of cutter measure over to the 1" mark.  Move blade to the 2 1/8" mark and cut down to 6.5" mark.
Slide paper over to the 2 1/4" line and then repeat your cut from 2 1/8" mark down to the 6.5" mark.

Now With long side of cardstock at top of score board score at 2 1/8",   4 1/4"
fold as shown.
The biggest problem with this card is that each piece has to be custom cut.  Not so difficult for most pieces because they are straight but the far right side of the card is an odd shape.
My pieces are all cut about 1/8" smaller as I'm not a huge fan of 1/4" borders.  Here are the piece sizes I used.  Please be sure to measure your  base before cutting DSP.

(1)        2" x  5 3/8"
(1)        2" x  3 3/8"
(1)        2" x  7/8"
(2)        2" x  1 1/8"
(1)        4 1/8" x 5 3/8" with notch cut out to fit right side of card.

After DSP is attached....Embellish Embellish Embellish!!!  Fussy cut, add sparkle, color accents, use foam squares for height etc.

Will I make this one again???  Probably.  Maybe I'll learn some short cuts for that right side of the card.  Maybe not.  Maybe this is the only way to get it straight?  Anyway one thing for sure the next one will not take me 3 hours to make the base!  LOL

Thanks for stopping by and until next time..............................................

GOLF ANYONE?

So a few post ago I mentioned that I was going to try making a golf card.  My brother-in-law loves golf and although his birthday is not until July I decided that would give me plenty of time to figure something out.
I wanted to use the same type of card as my Shutter Flip card or Book card. Seen HERE  It seems I used both names in that post but it should be Shutter Flip Card.  Anyway............I am a big fan of Graphic 45 and they have a collection called Good Ol' Sport.  I figure I'd be able to find something in that pad.  Well much to my dismay there wasn't alot on Golf.  Plus I didn't have any golf embellies and the nearest place I can get Graphic 45 is 250 miles away.  UGH😕😕  So I took what I had and tried to make it work.  Well most of the card is Golf and I then had to go out to Michael's and picked up a few golf stickers for added embellies.  So here it is.

All in all I think it turned out just fine.  Plus I know my brother-in-law is going to love the work put into it.  Well I think that's it for now.  I have a Mothers Day card to make for my Aunt.
So until next time

Sizzix Lori Whitlock card

Well decided to take a break from all my fancy fold cards and use a die I bought a few months ago.  There seems to be a large amount of Card Dies out there.  Quite a few are by Stephanie Barnard which I own a few of them.  They come with all the dies you need to embellish too.  This makes for a quick but cute card.  The one I'm using today is the Gate fold Butterfly card die which you can purchase Here
All you need to do is decide the color of the card stock and crank away on your Big Shot, Big Kick or Cuttlebug.
I accidentally made the card when I realized I didn't take any pictures so I cut a second card for my granddaughter to put together.  Here are the pieces used.
Now all these pieces came in the Sizzix set except the white fence.  That is a totally different die.  I'm not sure the name of that set but it came with some flower dies and stamps. Here's my completed card.  I used different butterflies only because I already had them punched out from another project.

You really need to check out both Stephanie Barnard's card dies, which by the way are made by Sizzix and the Lori Whitlock dies.  So very convenient.

Well I'm off to try my guy card.  Thinking golf so lets see what I find.
Til next time.........................

Step Book card

Trying to come up with different fun folds can be a challenge.  But....I love a challenge and today I'm sharing a Step Book card.  At least that's what I'm calling it.  It sort of resembles a Z fold when totally opened.  You need a 12 x 12 sheet of card stock for this card.

First measure out a piece of cardstock 11.5 x 5.5 and another 2.75 x 4.25.  With the 11.5" at top of the score board score at:  .25,    3.75,    and   7.25.   Place the 1/4 " score line at the top of your trimmer and measure to 5/8" mark cutting to the last score mark.  Trim the remainder of this piece off.

Fold as shown:

I have made 2 samples of this.  The first one I used Designer paper that had a few small scenes on it.  It nearly doesn't need any embellishing at all.  Here it is un-embellished:

I then took the same card and used Christmas color papers.  Added some doilies, and snowflakes and a few other embellies and Voila!  Cute fun fold Christmas card.

Not done yet.......Found some My Little Pony paper and decided to make a little girl Birthday card.  How cute is this? Now I just have to decorate it.
I could go on and on but I don't want to bore you too much LOL so for now that's it and we will see what I find next.  Another fun fold????  Maybe........
Til next time.
